EMBARGO UNTIL DECEMBER 30, 2007

SAINT JOHN, N.B. — December 31, 2007 — While more than half of Atlantic Canadians prefer to ring in the New Year with their current companion, Atlantic Canadian men and women are the most likely to cast a wishful wayward eye to Pamela Anderson (15%) or George Clooney (18%) to help them keep warm this New Year’s Eve.

This was according to the results of a national survey of 500 beer-drinking Canadians commissioned by Moosehead Breweries Limited

As far as New Year’s resolutions go, one-third of Atlantic Canadians said they were going to make one, compared to only 24% of Westerners who feel less need to make changes to their lifestyle.

Canadians are undivided regarding the one food item they would not give up as a New Year’s resolution – beer. Quebecers are the most adamant with 52% saying they wouldn’t forego a cold one. And when it comes to the type of beer Canadians prefer to drink in 2008, more than 43% said they would consider making a New Year’s resolution to drink only beer made by a 100% Canadian-owned brewery.

“The survey confirms what we always believed. If there’s one thing Canadians are reluctant to give up it’s beer. We definitely know Canadians are passionate about their beer. That’s because the origins of Canada are closely linked with brewing,” said Steven Poirier, President of Moosehead Breweries Limited. “We’re also pleased almost half of Canadians are willing to consider making a New Year’s resolution to drink beer made by a 100 per cent Canadian company like Moosehead.”

Where do Canadians feel is the best place to celebrate New Year’s?

An overwhelming number said they would be staying at home for a quiet evening (48%) or at a house party (28%). One lonely Canadian said he will be celebrating New Year’s at a corner store.

“We’re encouraged most Canadians will be ringing in the New Year at home with friends and family. Drinking responsibly is a priority at all times – especially New Year’s Eve,” Poirier said.

But if they were to go out to celebrate, one in five Canadians said they would like to ring in the New Year with the B.C.-based rock band Nickelback. They were closely followed by the Barenaked Ladies, The Tragically Hip and The Guess Who.

Happy New Year!

Moosehead Breweries is Canada’s third largest brewer by production volume and is the country’s last major brewer still owned by Canadians. Headquartered in Saint John, New Brunswick, the company has been operated by the Oland family since it was established in 1867.
